Karim Medhat Ennarah is a 30-year-old political activist who has been involved with the 6 April Youth Movement and other grassroots political groups in Egypt since 2008. Currently, he is a researcher on criminal justice and policing, working for the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR). In July 2013 he finished a research stay in Berlin with a grant from the Irmgard Coninx Foundation. His research focuses on Egyptian criminal justice, policing policy and legislation in the post-2011 era, as well as the changing aspects of the relationship between the police/state and local communities.
Karim M. Ennarah is in Egypt and willing to be interviewed.
Karim M. Ennarah worked in the NGO sector in Egypt for two years before moving to South Sudan where he has been working with the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission. His work focuses on conflict mitigation, conflict analysis and capacity building for local governance.
His current project is a qualitative study of a select number of incidents of violent engagements between the police and local communities in various Egyptian localities in the year 2012. In Berlin he closely worked with the Zentrum Moderner Orient. He is preparing a study on violent clashes and human rights abuses in the Sinai.
