idw Award for Science Communication
idw brings you a yearly total of 20,000 press releases form scientific institutions. idw also fosters quality, awarding a prize for the best press release of the year. Eligible are press releases published via idw in 2011. The 860 press offices using idw are invited to send their entries. A competent jury will select the three best press releases and award a total of 3,500 Euros, dedicated for further strengthening of quality in Communications.

Dr. Bernd Rasche appointed idw Team Leader
idw has a new team leader: Dr. Bernd Rasche started on January 16, 2012, as head of idw’s team of nine. Bernd Rasche’s expertise in communications stems from his earlier experiences at the Münster University, in EU-related projects of Northrine-Westphalia’s government and the German Federal government. He also has been working for years for several daily papers with nation-wide circulation.

idw at WiD Forum Wissenschaftskommunikation in Cologne, december 6-8, 2011
The idw participates at WiD Forum Wissenschaftskommunikation meeting - an annual expert conference and symposium on the subject of science communication for the interested public. In this years focus: Science Communication inbetween politics, society and science. The conference aims to serve as active platform for the transfer of information between organisations involved in science communication and their target groups. idw at science fair "Wissenswerte" in Bremen, november 21-23, 2011
Procuring research and innovation is one of the challenges of the science community today. The WISSENSWERTE, the Science Journalists forum in Bremen, bears the challenge since 2004. idw at DGI-Conference
Information professionals are seeing a shift away from user-generated content on the Web 2.0 to automatically networked content on the semantic Web 3.0.
The theme of the 26th Oberhofer Colloquium of the German Society for Information Science and Information Practice (DGI) in Magdeburg / Barleben from the 10th to the 12th of november 2011 is therefore: "Web 3.0 - is it the web of information specialists"
The idw is represented in the thematic block "Best Practice in Data Base Producers ".

idw's Annual Meeting of Members on April 8, 2011
idw is a non-profit organization which holds an annual meeting of its members. In 2011, this is to take place on April 8, in Leipzig, Germany. idw is preparing a social program for April 7. idw member organizations will receive an invitation with full details in February.
