September 6 at a meeting in Lund, Sweden ScanBalt (coordinating network of life sciences) became a strategic partner of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS).

ScanBalt takes an active involvement in the region and aims to build up a thorough knowledge in life sciences in the region, implemented through its project of ScanBalt BioRegion, to increase the competitiveness of the Baltic Sea region in the world.

CBSS and ScanBalt believe that this new strategic partnership will reinforce these efforts and will help to attract human, financial and industrial resources to ScanBalt BioRegion. In addition, the hope will be to facilitate easy access to competencies in the region by being a one-stop-entry creating a critical mass within research, innovation and education.

The Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) takes the role of representing an overall political forum for regional intergovernmental cooperation there by strengthening the collaboration between the political levels and paving the way for concrete results.
