FIBAA - Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation

In its last meeting on July 11th, 2014 and after asserting the fulfilment of the conditions, the FIBAA Accreditation Committee for Programmes decided to award the FIBAA Premium Seal to the bachelor programme ‘International Business and Management Studies (IBMS)’ of the Avans School of International Studies (ASIS). The granting of this special award took place on September 15th in Breda, Netherlands.

IBMS is a four-year programme leading to the degree of a bachelor of business administration (BBA) which has been set up to cater for the growing demand for graduates to assume international commercial and economic management positions. The programme focuses on the four areas of international business environment, international general management, on the international key areas marketing, operations management, accounting and financial management, and on human resource management. The programme is taught entirely in English, and it offers practical training in international companies. It includes an obligatory selection of a Major (from 4 options), and a mandatory second foreign language. The programme is offered as a double degree programme with eight partner universities.

Avans Hogeschool is the first Higher Education Institution in the Netherlands which receives the FIBAA Premium Seal. The granting to Nies Rijnders, Dean of the Avans School of International Studies, took place on September 15th in Breda, Netherlands. At the granting, Henning Dettleff, Deputy Managing Director of the FIBAA, found laudatory words about the Bachelor programme: ‘The accredited study programme IBMS of the Avans Hogeschool of International Studies exceeds the expectations in various dimensions of quality’. The panel members appreciate that the modules have clearly defined contents and learning outcomes and are aligned to the strategic objectives of the programme at an exemplary manner. Furthermore, the bachelor programme has a stable and robust position on the higher education market and a strong international orientation. The expert panel points out in the assessment report: ‘Detailed, convincing reasons are given for the way in which the programme is embedded into ASIS's strategy through its emphasis on cooperation with international academic institutions, its internationality in general, and its strong focus on industry practice through co-operations with enterprises both in the region and in foreign countries.’ In his speech, Dettleff pointed out that Avans Hogeschool enabled its students to find employment in a broad range of professional areas. ‘The focus on graduate employability is without any doubt one of the crucial success factors of this study programme’, said Dettleff. During the meeting Nies Rijnders stated to be very proud of this achievement and that he and his team will further the development of this business school in order to reach an even higher level of which both students and other stakeholders can benefit.
With its Premium Seal, FIBAA distinguishes study programmes, which have proven their excellent quality in studies and teaching. It provides those interested in studies, such as students, graduates, higher education institutions as well as the employment market with reliable orientation on the outstanding quality of the degree programme.

Avans School of International Studies (ASIS) is one out of 19 schools of Avans University of Applied Sciences. At present, Avans University is one of the largest universities in the Netherlands, with 28,000 students, over 55 programmes and approximately 2,800 employees.
